This was a very useful first exposure to Value Chain Analysis. As biologists and engineers, it is easy to get drawn into the technical details of the product and miss the bigger picture. Both the Stakeholder Analysis and System Model help put things into perspective. As we draw closer to finishing our prototype, it is good to consider all elements required for growth and scale-up. The Stakeholder Analysis helped identify end-users and possible collaborators, which is valuable for strategic innovation. Additionally, the System Model is a great framework for fitting the product in the global system, especially at a time when we had to shift our focus from one application to another. As we move from prototyping to manufacturing applying such a framework becomes increasingly important.
